A plethora of weapons to watch on both sides of the ball could be breakout players down the stretch for Texas football in their final three games.

The return from the bye week for the Texas football program also brings with it what is usually an underrated test for this team in the lowly Kansas Jayhawks. Last year, former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles and the Jayhawks took fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman and his team right down to the wire. It took a game-winning field goal from then sophomore kicker Cameron Dicker for Texas to stave off the Kansas upset bid at home last year.

Kansas even took the Longhorns right down to the wire two seasons ago, when these two teams meet in Lawrence to cap the 2018 regular season. Really the only time during Herman’s tenure as head coach on the Forty Acres where the Longhorns were able to easily take care of business against Kansas was in his inaugural year, back in 2017.

The other two games remaining down the stretch for the 2020 regular season for the Longhorns will come against the Kansas State Wildcats on the road and the Iowa State Cyclones at home. Take care of business against Kansas, and Texas will just take the first step to making an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game. Kansas State and Iowa State will by no means be easy wins for Texas.

To get through the remainder of this regular season schedule unscathed out of the bye week, Texas will need some new players to rise to the occasion down the stretch. Texas carries a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12) out of the bye week and into the Kansas game.

Here’s a look into three Longhorns players that can breakthrough down the stretch through the three remaining regular season games.
