Texas Football: Kansas game postponed due to COVID-19 issues
The meeting between Texas football and the Kansas Jayhawks, originally scheduled for Nov. 21 in Lawrence, is pushed back to Dec. 12 due to COVID-19 issues.
For the first time this season, the Texas football program and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman had a game pushed back due to novel coronavirus-related issues. Texas and the Kansas Jayhawks and second-year former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles were set to face each other in Lawrence on the afternoon of Nov. 21.
But this game is now set to be pushed back to Dec. 12, one week prior to the start of the Big 12 Championship Game (set to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, on Dec. 19). This is now one of multiple Big 12 games that is pushed back to Dec. 12 in the wake of COVID-19 related issues.
The No. 14 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys had their contest against first-year head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears pushed back to Dec. 12 in the wake of a number of positive COVID-19 tests. Baylor did get to play their game the following weekend, though, on Oct. 24, in what amounted to a double-digit victory for the Longhorns.
That meeting between Oklahoma State and Baylor was originally set to take place on Oct. 17 in Waco, but is now moved back to Dec. 12.
The kick off time for the delayed Texas-Kansas start date on Dec. 12 will be announced at a later date and time. Here’s more on the delay of this game originally set to take place this coming weekend, in an official release from the Big 12.
"In accordance with Big 12 Conference football game interruption guidelines, the Texas at Kansas game scheduled for November 21 has been postponed. The game will be rescheduled on December 12. The time and television designation will be announced when available."
Texas was coming out of a bye week anyway to face the Jayhawks on the road on Nov. 21, with a kick off time that was originally set for 2:30 p.m. CT. Their next game up will now come against the against the No. 17 ranked Iowa State Cyclones at home on Nov. 27.
Texas will now carry a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12) into the meeting with Iowa State. Their last game resulted in a 17-13 narrow win at home over second-year head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers back on Nov. 10. Meanwhile, Kansas’ last game in a 62-9 drubbing at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners.
