Honorable mention Texas football HC candidates

Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina HC

The level of improvement that the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers football program showed over the course of head coach Jamey Chadwell’s tenure in the last three years is pretty stark. Coastal Carolina went just 3-9 in Chadwell’s first season at the helm in 2018. That turned into a two-win progression last season. And this year, the Chants are a perfect 9-0 hoping for a New Years Six Bowl berth in their near future.

Eric Bieniemy, Kansas City Chiefs OC

A head coaching candidate in the very near future at both the college and NFL levels will be the Kansas City Chiefs third-year offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The 51-year-old Bieniemy won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes last season. His offense ranks first in the NFL in passing yards, total points, interceptions, and second in total yards and giveaway ratio.

Steve Sarkisian, Alabama OC

There is always a temptation to hire away a Nick Saban disciple from the Alabama Crimson Tide, especially when that coach comes from a National Championship-contending team. And Alabama’s squad this year definitely looks like one that could win a National Championship.

Alabama ranks fourth in the FBS this year under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian in points per game (48.5) and they’re registering six touchdowns per game, more than 535 total yards, and eight yards per play. Sarkisian wouldn’t be the worst Texas head coaching candidate.

Tony Elliott, Clemson OC

Another highly touted offensive coordinator that could very soon land a head coaching job around the college football landscape is the Clemson Tigers OC Tony Elliott. Last offseason, former Clemson OC Jeff Scott left town to become the next head coach of the South Florida Bulls. And Elliott could be the next one up off the Dabo Swinney coaching tree.
