2) Landing spots for Texas basketball’s Will Baker

TCU

There’s a chance that Baker could still stick close to home and take his talents to another Big 12 program, or at least one in the state of Texas. Just because he’s leaving the Longhorns doesn’t mean that he won’t stick around in this state. One likely taker if Baker was willing to look their way is with head coach Jamie Dixon and the TCU Horned Frogs.

The trip from Austin up to Fort Worth isn’t all that long. And using a similar argument to the inclusion of UCLA on this list, TCU did send a scholarship offer Baker’s way when he was coming out of high school. TCU was one of multiple Big 12 schools looking his way. Maybe it’s the right time for him to join Dixon and the Horned Frogs.

And while TCU usually isn’t the flashiest hoops program in the Big 12, they tend to be a consistent underrated NCAA Tournament contender. There’s a shot that Baker makes it to the NCAA Tournament more often with the Horned Frogs than he would with Smart and the Longhorns. He would definitely get more of a chance to contribute to an NCAA Tournament contender right away with TCU than he would with Texas.

Dixon and the Horned Frogs were not looking like an NCAA Tournament team last season, but they do early this college hoops campaign. TCU owns a record of 3-0 still very early on in the 2020-21 regular season.

The combination of playing time with a proven successful head coach like Dixon makes TCU a very viable landing spot out of the portal for Baker.
