Athletic director Chris del Conte doesn’t sound like he will have a decision in the next few days at least on Texas football head coach Tom Herman.

This was the news that we were expecting. The Texas football program and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman will not likely have a decision on the future of this staff coming this week. Texas had a lot of chatter surrounding Herman following their tough 23-20 loss at the hands of the No. 13 ranked Iowa State Cyclones back on Black Friday/Senior Day.

The loss for Herman and the Longhorns moved this team to a record of 5-3 (4-3 Big 12) with just the Kansas schools remaining on the schedule for this season. Texas has now brought pretty much each of their games in Big 12 play this season down to the wire, outside of their double-digit win over the Baylor Bears at home back on Oct. 24.

After the loss to Iowa State, the Longhorns were bounced from both major polls (AP Poll and Coaches Poll). Although we have yet to see what will happen for them in the next release of the College Football Playoff Rankings this week. Texas sat at No .17 in the initial College Football Playoff Rankings from last week.

Not only did the Longhorns get bounced from both major polls after this loss to Iowa State, they snapped a three-game winning streak and effectively ended their shot to reach the Big 12 Championship Game. That does not bode well for the future of Herman on the Forty Acres.

And according to a report from Horns247 on the morning of Nov. 30 (paid content), Texas athletic director Chris del Conte will not make a decision on Herman at least until after this weekend’s matchup with the Kansas State Wildcats. It sounds like the conversation for Herman’s fate on the Forty Acres is set to transpire likely at the end of this season, but definitely not until the Kansas State game has come and gone.

In a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports over the weekend, he did describe how he was “feeling the pressure” to make a decision on Herman in the near future. But what the near future means is yet to be known. A lot hinges on how the Longhorns finish out this calendar year both on the field and on the recruiting trail.

Another big factor at play, that is also mentioned in the Horns247 report, is what candidates the Longhorns could realistically pull into play in the near future. The name that is the talk of the town is the former Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators three-time National Championship-winning head coach Urban Meyer.
