3) Texas basketball bold predictions vs. IU

Courtney Ramey continues his double figures scoring streak

The reason why this part of the list is a bold prediction, and not just an obvious prediction, is that I think there is a legitimate shot for Ramey to eclipse the 20-point mark if the Longhorns are able to beat the Hoosiers. Ramey really found his groove down the stretch last season, and that hot play on the offensive end of the floor continued into the start of the current campaign.

Through two games played this season (both of which he started in), Ramey averaged 17.0 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks. And he’s shot 50.0 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line.

We can’t let the hype train leave the station too early for Ramey. Senior guard Matt Coleman got off to a very hot start last season for the Longhorns, and slowed down as Big 12 play moved along. Coleman still had a career year last season, but it was very easy to get too excited about how hot he started out of the gates.

What is so exciting about Ramey’s play of late is how he’s finally starting to fulfill his offensive potential. Coleman was playing out of his mind in multiple respects in the early portion of last season, but Ramey is now playing within his own means and skill set.

The way that Coleman is standing out with on-ball defense and facilitating the offense, while Ramey is taking over as the primary scorer, has to be the way that Smart wanted this starting backcourt pairing to work together.
