3) Takeaways from Texas football’s win vs. K-State

Sam Ehlinger’s smaller stat lines don’t matter on the outcome of games

One constant throughout this roller coaster ride of a stretch run through Big 12 play is the reduced production of Ehlinger. The senior star signal caller got off to a scorching hot start in terms of his stat line to start the season. He’s really slowed down of late, although he was efficient when called up in the first three quarters.

Ehlinger finished up this game with 20 completions on 27 passing attempts, good for 274 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. But if you include sack yardage, this was definitely one of the worst rushing performances in recent memory for Ehlinger. He registered -6 rushing yards on three attempts in this game.

Since Ehlinger amassed six total touchdowns in the loss in the annual Red River Rivalry game to the Oklahoma Sooners in four overtimes back on Oct. 10, he has yet to reach four total touchdowns in any outing. He does have a few occasions of three passing and/or total touchdowns, but that’s it since Red River.

On the season so far, Ehlinger has registered more than 2,400 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 382 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns. The good thing about Ehlinger’s play of late is that he is really minimizing mistakes again. Ehlinger has not tossed a single pick since the Oct. 24 win over Baylor.
