Texas Football: No additional positive COVID-19 tests reported Monday
Good news came for the Texas football program on Dec. 8 with the report that no additional COVID-19 positive tests came back early this week.
There was a scare over the weekend concerning the Texas football program with their final game on the regular season schedule, due to novel coronavirus related issues. Texas had five positive COVID-19 tests come up over the weekend, concerning players, staffers, coaches, etc. But a Horns247 report (paid content) surfaced on Dec. 8 showing that there were no additional COVID-19 positive tests that came up early in the week.
Of the five positive COVID-19 tests that reportedly came up over the weekend, following the 69-31 domination of the Kansas State Wildcats and head coach Chris Klieman on the road on Dec. 5, three were from players. The other two positive tests were from staffers.
But that is good news that there were no additional reported COVID-19 positive tests early this week. Texas had suspended football activities through the beginning of the day on Dec. 8 in hope that they would have enough personnel in terms of players and staffers to still face the Kansas Jayhawks next weekend.
If no more positive COVID-19 tests continue into the day on Dec. 8, then the Longhorns can resume football activities on Dec. 9. And then they would likely still be able to face Kansas on the road on Dec. 12 in Lawrence.
But if there are any other positive COVID-19 tests that surface this week, then the game will likely have to be moved back to the week of the Big 12 Championship Game, on Dec. 19. Since the Kansas game was already pushed back once due to COVID-19 related issues, the best thing would obviously be to have it played on Dec. 12.
There’s no reports as to who the positive COVID-19 cases are among the five players and staffers for the Longhorns. But that might hold true until no more positive cases surface.
Texas is set to kick off against Kansas on the afternoon of Dec. 12, specifically at 2:30 p.m. CT at David Booth-Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. The Longhorns enter the game with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12), while the Jayhawks are still winless on the season.
