Texas Football: 5 early 2021 signees that can make an instant impact
2) Instant impact 2021 Texas football early signees
As the other position group in the Longhorns 2021 class that landed multiple blue chip commits, outside linebacker was a spot of strength for this cycle. And the higher rated of the Longhorns two 2021 outside linebacker commits, four-star Shadow Creek product Terrence Cooks, is one that does have a pretty polished skill set and a good level of maturity in his game.
Cooks has good instincts and excellent speed in pursuit of the ball carrier. He’s also got good size, at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, so he wouldn’t need to change his body all that much when he arrives on the Forty Acres next year.
Not to take anything away from the Longhorns other four-star outside linebacker commit, and Arlington-Martin product Morice Blackwell, but Cooks does look a bit more ready to make an early impact for Texas.
Moreover, Cooks chose to take his talents to the Forty Acres over offers from a whopping 35 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon, Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech, and USC.
Cooks ranks as the nation’s No. 309 2021 high school prospect, No. 18 outside linebacker, and No. 46 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 29 outside linebacker, and No. 53 prospect out of Texas.
Ash and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler did a nice job getting Cooks into this 2021 class, despite already having one blue chip commit at the position.
