Texas Football: 4 transfer portal gifts Herman would love for Christmas
4) Texas football transfer portal gifts for Herman
It would be very ironic if the Longhorns would be able to get back their former commit from the 2020 recruiting class, and freshman Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Mookie Cooper. The one time integral part of the Longhorns 2020 class wound up signing to take his talents to the Big Ten when it was all said and done during the last recruiting cycle.
It was pretty surprising to see Cooper’s name show up in the transfer portal on Dec. 23. He should have a lot of suitors lining up immediately to get in contact with him heading into next offseason. It looked like Cooper had a bright future in Columbus, under head coach Ryan Day, but his time with the Buckeyes could be rather short lived.
Cooper didn’t actually get any meaningful game snaps this fall for the Buckeyes. He could’ve got some playing time in the College Football Playoff if the Buckeyes were thin at the skill positions, or managed to somehow get up big on the Clemson Tigers in their semifinal game. But he didn’t even get any snaps on special teams this fall.
Coming out of Pattonville High School, Cooper was a highly coveted blue chip signee in Ohio State’s 2020 class. He ranked as the nation’s No. 93 2020 high school prospect, No. 16 wide receiver, and No. 4 prospect out of Missouri (247Sports Composite).
No clear favorite has emerged in the hours since Cooper put his name in the transfer portal, but it might be worth reaching out for Herman and his staff to gauge his interests in coming back to the Forty Acres.
