Texas Football: Caden Sterns has blunt take on firing of Tom Herman
Former Texas football head coach Tom Herman learned he would no longer be with the program this weekend in shocking news that emerged on Jan. 2.
The reaction to the news coming out of the Texas football program that now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman will be replaced by Steve Sarkisian heading into the offseason continues to make waves. A lot of current and former players and recruits of the Texas program took to social media almost immediately after the Herman news dropped to give their various takes on the matter.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver and former elite five-star recruit Jordan Whittington gave his take on the departure of Herman on the morning of Jan. 2. And fellow former five-star Longhorns recruit and standout junior safety Caden Sterns also took to his Twitter timeline on Jan. 2 to have his voice heard on the news.
Sterns stated on his post on his Twitter timeline on the morning of Jan. 2 that you should “do what’s right for your family and you or you’ll get caught up with the politics in CFB”. He also spoke on how this is just business and it “isn’t pretty at all”.
Sterns was originally recruited by Herman and his staff. He was the highest rated commit/signee in the Longhorns 2018 recruiting class, as a five-star safety hailing out of Cibolo, TX. He had a solid career on the Forty Acres, but wound up opting out early for the rest of the season to prepare for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
During his three years playing for Texas, Sterns registered 173 combined tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, five interceptions, and eight pass breakups. He’s likely to be an early-to-middle round pick in the 2021 draft.
Meanwhile, Herman departs from the Texas program after four years at the helm where he registered a total record of 32-18. He finished up the 2020 season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12), after the Longhorns destroyed the Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl back on Dec. 29, by the final score of 55-23.
It is reported from multiple sources that the Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Sark will be the next Texas head coach heading into the 2021 offseason. Sark is also a former head coach of the Washington Huskies and USC Trojans.
