3) Landing spots for former Texas football LB Adeoye

Illinois

A potentially common landing spot for former blue chip Power Five recruits that find themselves in the transfer portal this offseason will be with the former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema and the Illinois Fighting Illini. The now former New England Patriots positional coach Bielema was recently brought aboard to replace Lovie Smith as the head coach of the Fighting Illini football program.

This could wind up being a solid hire for Illinois since the Big Ten is where Bielema got his footing as a notable name in the college football coaching ranks. Bielema made his name in the college football coaching ranks more than seven years ago during his time as the Wisconsin Badgers head coach. He really likes to run power football on offense.

But on defense, Bielema thrives off having rangy and athletic linebackers that have good closing speed and cover the field sideline-to-sideline in quick fashion. If Adeoye can stay healthy, then he could be a really effective part of this Illinois defense. The Fighting Illini were truly one of the unheralded programs that came right down to it for Adeoye’s commitment decision.

The Illinois defense does need a lot of help heading into the offseason, but Bielema could be a solid recruiter out of the transfer portal to fill a lot of those holes. Since the St. Louis, MO, native Adeoye was recruited hard by the Fighting Illini, and got an offer from Arkansas, coming out of high school, this program could make sense for him out of the portal.
