3) Biggest 2021 Texas football recruiting misses post-NSD

The 2021 recruiting cycle was the one where the Longhorns were really supposed to stock up in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball. The raw amount of offensive line talent available in state for this cycle was mind-boggling. But it was also something that former head coach Herman and ex-offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand couldn’t capitalize on in the slightest.

Instead, it was actually the newly hired Texas offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Kyle Flood that took advantage of a lot of the plethora of offensive line talent in this state for the 2021 Crimson Tide recruiting class. The main set of offensive line prospects that got away from Texas were the five-star All Saints Episcopal offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer and four-star center James Brockermeyer.

Two extremely highly touted brothers that could standout in the trenches for the Longhorns wound up getting away to head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Tommy in particular had more than two dozen schools on his offer sheet. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet were the Auburn Tigers, Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma, and Stanford Cardinal.

Moreover, the 6-foot-6 and 285 pound Brockemeyer ranked as the nation’s No. 5 2021 high school prospect, No. 2 offensive tackle, and the top overall prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Fort Worth, TX, native sat in the Top247 as the nation’s No. 9 high school prospect, No. 2 offensive tackle, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas.
