Although it wouldn’t be regarded as the biggest upset we’ve ever seen, if No. 12 ranked Texas basketball and head coach Shaka Smart can get the win over the rival No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Lon Kruger on the road on Feb. 16, it would shakeup the Big 12 landscape. Texas is set to take on the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood in Norman on the night of Feb. 16.

This will be the second meeting between the Longhorns and Sooners on the hardwood over the course of the last three and a half weeks. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a tough one-point loss for the Longhorns at home at the Frank Erwin Center back on Jan. 26. But that game saw Texas at maybe their most shorthanded point of the regular season to date.

Texas is set to come into this game with a record of 13-5 (7-4 Big 12) after their last game resulted in a solid 70-55 win over the TCU Horned Frogs at home on Feb. 12. Meanwhile, Oklahoma comes into this game with a record of 13-5 (8-4 Big 12) following their 91-90 double overtime win over the No. 14 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers on the road on Feb. 13.

For the Longhorns to continue to trend in the right direction, they’ll have to split the regular season series with the Sooners. If they can take down Oklahoma on the night of Feb. 16, then Texas will be able to move their winning streak to three games.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three reasons why the Longhorns can upset the Sooners on the road in Norman on Feb. 16.
