For the second time this week, No. 12 ranked Texas basketball and head coach Shaka Smart will have to wait on their opportunity to even the regular season series with the rival Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Lon Kruger on the hardwood. The originally scheduled date for the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood between Texas and No. 9 ranked Oklahoma was set for Feb. 16 in Norman at the Lloyd Noble Center.

A report from the Twitter timeline of Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports showed that the meeting in Norman between the Longhorns and Sooners on the hardwood will now have to wait until the night of Feb. 18. The reason cited for the second delay this week for the game between Texas and Oklahoma is inclement weather.

Nearly the entire state of Texas got covered in snow and ice since the weekend, and has caused multiple delays in college and professional sports in the days following.

What this could mean for Texas basketball’s schedule

This now means that the already rescheduled Feb. 18 meeting with the Iowa State Cyclones on the road in Ames will be pushed back to a later date. As of the early afternoon of Feb. 16, there is no rescheduled date in place for the Texas-Iowa State game.

At the moment, this point of the Big 12 schedule for the Longhorns is very compressed. They were originally scheduled to face the West Virginia Mountaineers and head coach Bob Huggins at home at the Frank Erwin Center on Feb. 20. That might be in jeopardy now too.

Even the originally scheduled regular season home finale against the Kansas Jayhawks set for Feb. 23 at the Erwin Center could be cutting it tight for Texas now. They have a plethora of games that need to be shuffled around to fit in the tight window of time remaining for the regular season slate.

Heading into the Oklahoma game, Texas boasts a record of 13-5 (7-4 Big 12) after their last game resulted in a solid 70-55 win over the TCU Horned Frogs at home on Feb. 13. Texas has now built a two-game winning streak heading into the Red River Rivalry game later this week.

Meanwhile, the surging Sooners come into this game with a record of 13-5 (8-4 Big 12) with their last game having resulted in a very close one-point double overtime win over West Virginia. Oklahoma will be riding a two-game winning streak as well heading into this game.
