3) Upperclassmen to watch in spring for Texas football

Cade Brewer, Tight End

Getting back more experience at the skill positions this year could be huge for Sark and the Longhorns. Texas did lose a lot of key starters on both sides of the ball entering the offseason. But the tight end position is one where the Longhorns should be fine in the end. They didn’t really lose a whole lot in this spot.

Texas did see the likes of former Michigan Wolverines transfer wide receiver Tarik Black and junior wideout Brennan Eagles depart for the NFL Draft, but the rest of the receiving corps should be back in 2021.

One particular key upperclassmen to watch this offseason in the receiving corps will be senior tight end Cade Brewer. This to-be fifth-year senior is coming off one of his less productive seasons of his career to date in 2020. Brewer wasn’t really a huge factor in the receiving or blocking game last fall.

Spring will be an opportunity for Brewer to right the ship with a new coaching staff taking over on the Forty Acres. He’s coming off a season where he registered 15 catches for 169 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in eight games played. He wasn’t the best blocker last year either, as he allowed four quarterback pressures, one sack, one hit, and two hurries, on just 42 pass blocking plays.

Brewer needs a solid response this offseason to show that he should still hold a big role in this offense. His blocking and receiving abilities are about to get put to the test once again this spring.
