One area of stability for the Longhorns on the offensive side of the ball in spring camp this year is going to be at the tight end position. With senior tight end Cade Brewer using the NCAA’s ruling of extending one year of eligibility for those that competed during the 2020 college football season in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas has a lot of proven experience coming back at the position this year.

A few other notable tight ends that the Longhorns are getting back this year include sophomore Brayden Liebrock, junior Jared Wiley, and redshirt junior Malcolm Epps. Watch out for the duo of Epps and Brewer to start out the season getting most of the reps at the position. Wiley and Liebrock add a lot of depth for Sark and the Longhorns at this position, and both of them could get significant reps in game action this year.

One other name to watch that is apparently stepping up in a big way for Texas in spring ball this offseason is the underrated three-star 2021 recruit Cherry Creek 6-foot-5 and 225 pound tight end Gunnar Helm. As a key skill position piece in the Longhorns 2021 class, helm ranked as the nation’s No. 659 high school prospect, No. 33 tight end, and No. 6 prospect out of Colorado (247Sports Composite).

Multiple reports indicate that Helm, along with former three-star Texas athlete commit Juan Davis, are doing a lot to impress and contribute early in spring ball for the Longhorns. Both Helm and Davis were early enrollees that could make their mark at the tight end position pretty fast for Sark, Flood, and the Longhorns.
