Texas Football: 3 new additions who are standing out in spring ball
Darion Dunn, CB
The sole addition for Sark and the Longhorns out of the transfer portal thus far that has actually enrolled at the school for spring ball is the former McNeese State Cowboys FCS graduate transfer and senior cornerback Darion Dunn. This 6-foot-1 and 195 pound Oakdale, LA, native is already contributing for Texas in spring ball out of the gates too, which is a great sign for him and the secondary as a whole.
Dunn was once a commit out of the transfer portal with head coach Dave Doeren and the NC State Wolfpack. But former Texas head coach Tom Herman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai flipped his commitment to the Longhorns in December 2020 during the Early Signing Period. Sark and new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph did do a great job in keeping Dunn on the Forty Acres after Herman was fired back on Jan. 2.
Competing with the likes of senior cornerbacks D’shawn Jamison and Josh Thompson for reps this offseason, Dunn is set to be a huge depth piece for the secondary. But this entire trio of experienced senior cornerbacks will be crucial for the secondary to thrive as a unit during the fall.
Along with younger additions to the cornerback room like Johnson and Ibraheem, sophomores Jahdae Barron and Kitan Crawford are important names to watch at the position this year. Texas has a nice bit of depth at corner this offseason between their trio of seniors, and then the combinations of sophomores and freshmen.
