One player that is drawing a lot of attention in spring ball for the Longhorns thus far is the former NC State Wolfpack commit and McNeese State Cowboys graduate transfer senior cornerback Darion Dunn. Texas loses a lot on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, thus getting a new addition and proven defensive back like Dunn to step up in spring drills is crucial.

Sark and defensive backs coach Terry Joseph did a nice job of hanging onto the commitment of Dunn after he joined Texas during the Early Signing Period last December. With the departure of Herman and former cornerbacks coach Jay Valai, it looked like Dunn might take his talents elsewhere out of the transfer portal.

Getting the extra cornerback depth in the mix is big for Texas. They lost the likes of junior cornerback Jalen Green and sophomore Kenyatta Watson II since last season began to the transfer portal. Sark (and Herman/Valai at the time) did a nice job of turning the transfer portal to their benefit after losing some depth at the position.

Dunn is doing well in spring ball, making some big plays alongside senior cornerbacks D’shawn Jamison and Josh Thompson. Both of those corners have mentioned during spring ball that Dunn is standing out. This could be an experienced senior trio of cornerbacks to watch for the Longhorns this fall.
