Gonzaga

On the night of April 5, the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs were dominated by the Big 12 regular season champion and fellow one-seed Baylor Bears in the National Championship Game. The NCAA Tournament went well for Gonzaga until they met the 11-seed UCLA Bruins in the Final Four. And then Baylor gave them a very rough ride in the final game of the NCAA Tournament this week.

The Zags still had a solid run this season but will be losing a good amount of depth in all likelihood to the NBA. Star freshman point guard Jalen Suggs, junior guard/wing Joel Ayayi, and sophomore big man Drew Timme, among others, could all take their talents to the next level this year.

If Gonzaga is lacking in depth projected for next season, then hitting the transfer portal might not be out of the question for longtime head coach Mark Few. And turning to someone that they recruited heavily back during the 2018 recruiting cycle like Hepa could be a good move for them in the end.

If Hepa hadn’t given his commitment to Smart and the Longhorns 2018 recruiting class, then Gonzaga might’ve landed him. Gonzaga has taken their recruiting game to a new level in recent years, but they didn’t get Hepa a few cycles back.

Bolstering the frontcourt rotation amid an offseason potentially filled with roster attrition and keeping him close to home could be two huge factors that get the Zags Hepa out of the transfer portal.
