Although he didn’t stick around for long on the Forty Acres, it was big at the time for the Longhorns to flip the commitment of former OU pledge and four-star Newbury Park pro-style quarterback Cameron Rising. After just one year of playing for Texas, Rising wound up putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Rising took his talents to link up with head coach Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes in the PAC-12 two offseasons ago.

Nonetheless, the 2018 recruiting class did have a lot of talent at the quarterback position for the Longhorns. They signed both the 6-foot-2 and 220 pound California native Rising and four-star Newcastle dual-threat quarterback Casey Thompson during the 2018 cycle.

Moreover, just one game into his 2020 campaign, Rising wound up getting knocked out for the season due to injury. That gave way to the Utes starting former South Carolina Gamecocks graduate transfer quarterback Jake Bentley throughout most of last season.

Rising will be in a mix that includes fellow former Longhorn and four-star quarterback recruit Ja’Quinden Jackson with the Utes this year. Jackson also transferred to Utah, bolstering Whittingham’s depth at the quarterback position.

Coming out of Newbury Park, CA, Rising ranked as the nation’s No. 247 2018 high school prospect, No. 11 pro-style quarterback, and No. 33 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the No. 26 pro-style quarterback and No. 85 prospect out of California.
