Good times could be just around the corner for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class with official visits set to resume in the very near future. And spring camp is bringing about a lot of excitement for what’s to come for this program now under the direction of newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas got an immediate jolt on the recruiting trail for their 2022 and 2023 classes following the hire of Sark as the next head coach more than three months ago.

Sark replaced former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman following another volatile year on the field and on the recruiting trail. Unfortunate events for the Longhorns 2022 class such as losing the commitments of elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers and four-star Lancaster wide receiver Pharos  Wilson largely doomed Herman’s fate with the program.

But now the fortunes look brighter than they have in a good while with Sark leading the way.

What could be ahead for the Longhorns 2022 class is an explosion of talent on the offensive side of the ball. A piece published this week by Mike Roach of 247Sports predicted what the 2022 class will look like on the offensive side of the ball.

Predictions for the offense in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class

This projection from Roach included the commits already included in the mix for the 2022 class, like the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy and four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue. There were also some prospects trending to the Longhorns of late like four-star offensive guard Cole Hutson and four-star Burges running back Tavorus Jones in the class.

Maybe the most compelling part of this piece was the inclusion of three key five-star prospects that are priorities on this side of the ball for the Longhorns 2022 class.

First and foremost, the former Oklahoma State Cowboys commit and five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks was picked to pledge to Texas. Banks currently has a number of schools after him including the Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, Oklahoma State, and Texas.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 21 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Another key piece of the offensive line that this piece projected Texas to have in their 2022 class was the elite five-star Bowie offensive tackle Devon Campbell. As a prospect that Texas was after for a while now, Campbell would be huge to get in the 2022 class.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 2022 high school prospect, top overall offensive tackle, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Last but not least, Texas was projected to get five-star St. Mary’s wide receiver target Kevin Coleman in their 2022 class when it’s all said and done. Coleman is projected here to join four-star Frisco-Liberty product Evan Stewart and four-star Lewisville commit Armani Winfield in the Longhorns 2022 receiving corps class.

Coleman ranks as the nation’s No. 17 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 wide receiver, and top overall prospect out of Missouri (247Sports Composite).

A projection like this should provide for a lot of excitement about what could be to come for the Longhorns 2022 class on the offensive side of the ball. Focus should still remain on building up the defense for co-defensive coordinators Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate, though.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 9 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas is now up to seven commits in their 2022 class, with the highest-rated being the five-star quarterback commit and California native Murphy.
