One potential prize transfer portal target that Beard and the Longhorns are already looking into is the former talented four-star recruit and 6-foot-7 and 215 pound sophomore shooting guard/wing Micah Peavy. A former target of Smart and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail, Peavy didn’t take all that long to put his name in the portal this offseason with Beard joining Texas.

As one of the highest-rated recruits that the Longhorns offered during the 2020 cycle that got away from them to a Big 12 foe in Texas Tech, Peavy should appeal greatly to this new coaching staff. And since Peavy is already familiar with the systems and a look of the staff that Beard has put together for the Longhorns, this move out of the portal could make a lot of sense for all parties involved.

Peavy showed flashes of brilliance during his true freshman campaign last season at Texas Tech. In 29 games played (25 of which he started in), Peavy averaged 5.7 points per game, 3.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he shot 45.9 percent from the field, didn’t make any attempts from beyond the arc, and 47.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The shooting ability of Peavy will need to improve before he will see any lift in his NBA Draft stock. But his promise is certainly something worth looking into.

Coming out of Duncanville High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Peavy ranked as the nation’s No. 44 2020 high school prospect, No. 7 small forward, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top 247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 65 high school prospect, No. 13 small forward, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas.
