Most of the attention that was placed on the 2021 Texas football recruiting class has moved beyond the current scope for this program, and rightly so, with new head coach Steve Sarkisian hitting the ground running with the 2022 class. But the 2021 recruiting class was placed back on the forefront of news on the trail on April 15. News that Texas is in the running to potentially flip the commitment of four-star Central East wide receiver Xavier Worthy from the Michigan Wolverines shook the Forty Acres.

Texas signed a quality 2021 class all things considered. Sark and the Longhorns faced a tall task to keep together the 2021 signing class with all of the coaching staff turnover and volatility on the recruiting trail that precluded the firing of former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranked at No. 16 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas wound up signing 21 prospects in their 2021 class, in which roughly half enrolled early to get on campus for spring ball.

Any retroactive additions for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class?

If there’s any room that the Longhorns have to still add scholarship players to the roster, then retroactive additions to the 2021 class make a lot of sense. Texas did only sign one five-star prospect in their 2021 class and nine or 10 other blue chips. That sole five-star signee was the elite Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders.

Texas could still use help at a multitude of positions on either side of the ball this offseason. Getting a retroactive signee meets the best of both worlds of hitting the NCAA Transfer Portal for immediate help and getting the chance to develop a player from the ground up.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three potential retroactive additions that Sark and the Longhorns could get for their 2021 class in the way of the flipping of key commits elsewhere.
