Weirdly enough, the one name on this list among the former Texas Tech players in the transfer portal that have only had their name in once in their college career is the junior former three-star recruit and shooting guard Kyler Edwards. The role and overall efficiency of Edwards clearly grew for Beard and the Red Raiders in the last three years.

The 6-foot-4 and 195 pound Arlington, TX, native landed with the Red Raiders after getting offers from nearly 30 schools coming out of Findlay Prep High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He ranked as the nation’s No. 159 2018 high school prospect, No. 32 shooting guard, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Teams like the SMU Mustangs, Hoyas, Red Raiders, VCU, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Mizzou Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones, etc. were all after Edwards when he was recruited out of high school. But the Longhorns were not one of those schools to send Edwards a scholarship offer.

Texas would be lucky to fill a void in their backcourt rotation with the likes of Edwards after losing senior guard Matt Coleman and shooting guard Donovan Williams this offseason.

In 29 games played with Texas Tech last season, Edwards averaged 10.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.5 blocks. And he shot 40.8 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.9 percent from the free-throw line.
