There are two real candidates among former players out of the Texas football program that could be first round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. The first of which is the former star Texas junior outside linebacker/edge rusher Joseph Ossai, who was really good for this defense over the course of the last two seasons.

And the other candidate among former Longhorns players in the 2021 draft to be a first round pick is the standout former redshirt junior 6-foot-7 and 305 pound offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. Between Cosmi and Ossai, it does seem like the latter of those two former Longhorns players is the slightly more likely to be a first round draft pick.

The latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft from CBS Sports, released on the evening of April 19, has Cosmi as an early second round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals. That same mock has Ossai going in the late second round, to the Indianapolis Colts.

The latest CBS Sports 2021 mock draft is not the only one that projects Cosmi going higher than Ossai.

Day 1 pick ahead for former Texas football OT Sam Cosmi?

Cosmi had a solid run at the Texas Pro Day and the 2021 NFL Draft Combine too. He put up 36 reps on the bench press, a 4.39-second shuttle time, and a 7.35-second three-cone drill time.

The way that Cosmi shined in the draft spotlight in both the NFL Combine and Texas Pro Day should only help to really boost his stock weeks ahead of day one of the festivities.

Here’s a look at three potential NFL Draft landing spots for the former Longhorns offensive tackle Cosmi.
