Since Beard and the Longhorns had so many pickups out of the transfer portal so far this offseason to fill out the forward rotation, a lot of the attention now turns to the backcourt. Texas did already get one commitment out of the portal so far this offseason to help start filling out the backcourt rotation.

But landing the former elite five-star recruit and rising sophomore Askew was the lone addition out of the portal to the backcourt rotation as it stands now. Texas could be set to get another commitment to help round out the backcourt rotation in the very near future. Former Coastal Carolina Chanticleers star junior guard and unrated recruit DeVante Jones is set to announce where he will be taking his talents next on May 1.

There’s not much better out there this offseason in terms of guards that are proven stars that the Longhorns could get out of the portal than Jones. And the former Chanticleer is set to decide between the Longhorns, Texas Tech, Michigan Wolverines, and Memphis Tigers for his final commitment decision this coming weekend.

It looks like a lot of the momentum right now is trending to Jones landing with the Wolverines in Big Ten country. But we definitely shouldn’t be counting out the likes of the Longhorns as of yet. Jones could still have a very solid supporting cast to play with if he does wind up taking his talents to the Forty Acres when he announces his decision.
