One potentially underrated option for the Longhorns to get help out of the transfer portal this offseason in the backcourt rotation is a former guard that played for this program. Former Texas guard and Rutgers Scarlet Knights breakthrough 6-foot-2 and 185 pound senior Jacob Young looks to have one final year of his college career ahead.

And a potential destination for Young out of the portal is one that he has already played for in the past. Texas was the school that Young played his first two seasons of college basketball at. And it could also be the one that he plays his final year with.

Texas could very much use a proven veteran guard to complement the likes of sharpshooting senior guard Jase Febres, redshirt junior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, and junior guard Courtney Ramey, among others, for next season. Beard is set to get that key trio back for the 2021-21 season.

Although it looks like Texas might not be getting the standout senior guard Matt Coleman back for next season, especially after the departure of Smart last month, that is still a slight possibility. Getting one more guard in the mix like Young could be the icing on the cake for the Longhorns’ backcourt rotation for next season.

Young had the best season of his college career to date for the Scarlet Knights during the 2020-21 campaign. Last season, he registered a solid and career-best 4.8 box plus/minus rating, .102 win shares per 40 minutes, and a 17.6 player efficiency rating.
