If Texas does need another big-time addition to their shooting guard/wing rotation, it could start to get crowded. But if Beard plans to run similar lineups to what he did during his time at Texas Tech, a lot of small ball could be on the horizon for the Longhorns.

With that in mind, landing another key shooting guard/wing to play alongside Jones and the senior sharpshooter Jase Febres could be the right move for Texas. That’s where pursuing the former Maryland Terrapins four-star recruit and 6-foot-5 and 200 pound senior shooting guard Darryl Morsell out of the portal this offseason.

Morsell is definitely one of the more high-profile names to show up in the transfer portal of late. He would be an immediate impact player for the Longhorns that would help on both ends of the floor. That became clear since Morsell was the 2020-21 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. And his game is still improving in bits and pieces on offense.

Last season, Morsell was good on both ends of the floor in 30 games played for the Terps. And he averaged 9.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks. Morsell shot 48.6 percent from the field, 25.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 60.9 percent from the free-throw line.

A lot of the counting stats and advanced metrics that Morsell posted for the Terps last season were good for career bests. Putting the finishing touch on his college career could mean contending for a conference and national title at his next landing spot. If Texas can show out in Beard’s first year, this program might be able to offer Morsell that exact thing.
