Turning the attention to the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns would be able to catch a huge wave of momentum for their 2023 class if they were able to land a commitment from a five-star inside linebacker like the 6-foot-2 and 225 pound Denton-Ryan product Anthony Hill. This Dallas-Fort Worth-area product is one of the more highly touted high school prospects early on for the 2023 recruiting cycle.

He is also potentially the best linebacker/edge rusher available this early on in the 2023 cycle. Hill is already getting the sort of attention on the recruiting trail that a truly elite five-star prospect deserves this early on in the process. Texas is one of nearly 30 schools on his lengthy and impressive offer sheet as of the early afternoon of May 11.

Texas was also in on the recruitment of Hill for a good while now. The Longhorns sent their scholarship offer Hill’s way back in July 2020, making them one of the earlier schools on his offer sheet.

Some of the other notable schools on Hill’s offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

Texas will have to continue to step it up in the process of recruiting Hill. It was originally former Texas linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler that was after Hill on the trail. Now it should be some combination of new Texas co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate.

Moreover, Hill ranks as the nation’s No. 8 2023 high school prospect, and the top overall weak-side defensive end (classified differently in the recruiting rankings in the 247Sports Composite and Top247) and prospect out of Texas. And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 11 high school prospect, and the top overall weak-side defensive end and prospect out of Texas.
