The recruitment of the elite five-star 6-foot-5 and 300 pound Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks could now largely be boiling down to Texas and the rival Texas A&M Aggies. If the Longhorns can make a positive impact on the uber-talented and fundamentally sound Banks when he visits the Forty Acres next month, then it could give them the edge in the end.

Texas is scheduled to host Banks for an official visit on June 18. That comes two days after his scheduled official visit with head coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys and one weekend before he visits head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies. And the two other official visits he currently has scheduled are with the LSU Tigers (June 4) and Oregon Ducks (June 8).

Not only does Texas not have a commit from an offensive lineman in their 2022 class as of yet, they haven’t landed a single five-star prospect in this position group since their 2011 recruiting class. The last five-star offensive line commit the Longhorns landed was Sedrick Flowers. He came in with the same recruiting class as running back Malcolm Brown and quarterback David Ash.

Texas and Texas A&M are two of two dozen schools on Banks’ offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Oklahoma, Tennessee Volunteers, TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, and USC Trojans.

Moreover, Banks ranks as the nation’s No. 25 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 34 high school prospect, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas.
