At this point of the offseason, there aren’t all that many truly underrated potential finds in the transfer portal that could fill a void in the frontcourt rotation immediately for Beard and the Longhorns. A good portion of them are actually mentioned on this list. One to watch at this moment in time is the former Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and San Diego Toreros underrated three-star recruit and sophomore forward James Jean-Marie.

The 6-foot-8 and 230 pound Corsicana, TX, native is from closer to the Forty Acres than one might anticipate. That is largely because Jean-Marie played his high school hoops north of the border, in Montreal. He attended Navarro Junior College before getting seven offers during his recruitment. And he originally took his talents to join the San Diego hoops program over offers from six other schools.

Other notable schools that looked his way included the East Carolina Pirates, North Texas Mean Green, Oregon State Beavers, Florida International Panthers, and Texas State Bobcats.

Jean-Marie was solid out of the gates for San Diego during his freshman campaign. But after just one season with San Diego, he put his name in the transfer portal for the first time before landing with Hawaii.

In 21 games played with the Rainbow Warriors last season, Jean-Marie averaged 12.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he shot a solid 54.3 percent from the field, 44.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Of all of the big men available in the transfer portal at the moment, the most similar to Greg Brown could be Jean-Marie. He also shot well more consistently from the field and from beyond the arc than Brown did last season with the Longhorns.
