A plethora of visiting wide receivers this summer for Sark and the Longhorns will place a large emphasis on being able to recruit the skill positions. Texas could have a really solid core of wide receivers committed in their 2022 class when it’s all said and done if Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman get it right this summer.

Texas already has the likes of highly-touted four-star Lewsiville wide receiver Armani Winfield committed in the 2022 class. And they had the elite five-star Frisco Liberty wideout Evan Stewart committed at one point. Although Stewart re-opened his recruitment a couple of months ago, it still looks like Sark and the Longhorns could reel him back in.

One of the more underrated wide receiver targets to watch for Texas that is scheduled to have an official visit this summer in Austin is the 6-foot-1 and 210 pound Tenaha product Jeremy Patton. But two Big 12 foes on the recruiting trail look to be getting ahead in the pursuit of Patton, including the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Baylor Bears.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions does have two experts picking the commitment of Patton to land with either Baylor or Oklahoma State. Baylor and Oklahoma State also have two of the four official visits that Patton has scheduled for the summer. Texas and the Michigan Wolverines have the other two.

Patton is an interesting target for Texas since he is more of an athlete than a true wide receiver prospect. He plays on both sides of the ball, at linebacker and wideout, for Tenaha.

Texas will have to make a big impression with Patton when he’s in Austin on June 4. Maybe the Longhorns getting the first official visit can pay off in this instance.

Moreover, Patton ranks as the nation’s No. 663 2022 high school prospect, No. 43 outside linebacker, and No. 96 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as  the No. 47 outside linebacker and No. 80 prospect out of Texas.
