Texas Basketball: 4 elite 2022 prospects coming to the forefront in May
Emoni Bates, SF
Although the growing feeling is that the former Michigan State Spartans commit and the brilliant five-star Ypsi Prep Academy small forward Emoni Bates will ultimately take his talents the professional route, Texas still remains in play. Texas has really made one of the strongest pushes to get the commitment of Bates after he decommitted from head coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans on April 30.
Texas was the first school to send Bates a scholarship offer after he decommitted from Michigan State late last month. And Beard and the Longhorns are prioritizing him about as much as possible at this point in time. Texas is one of three schools that have offered Bates in the last few weeks. The other two are the Tennessee Volunteers and Memphis Tigers.
Bates did recently mention that Texas made an “early impression” on him with how much they’ve stayed in contact since he re-opened his recruitment.
It shouldn’t be all that long before we get more on the intentions of where Bates will take his talents to next. If he’s still got an open mind about taking to the traditional college route, then Texas needs to make a huge push to land his commitment.
Currently, there are now official visits scheduled for Bates this summer. But the top-ranked 2022 high school prospect in the nation is sure to have a lot of attention if those visits start to get booked in the near future.
