Switching up the focus in terms of position groups to the backcourt rotation, the Longhorns could use a long-term boost among their guards. Texas hasn’t signed a high school guard prospect since their 2019 class. And you have to go back much further to find the last time that Texas signed a true elite five-star recruit to fill out their backcourt rotation.

One blue-chip recruit that Texas can try and bring into the mix for their 2022 class to help out the backcourt rotation in the future is the highly-coveted Coppell 6-foot-7 and 185-pound four-star combo guard Anthony Black. And it really looks like Black could be one of the initial commits up for the Longhorns 2022 class less than two months into the Beard tenure as head coach.

The most recent of two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Black have him giving his commitment to Texas over the defending National Champion Baylor Bears and the rest of the field.

Texas is also one of two scheduled official visits for Black in what was a busy offseason for him already. He’ll visit with Beard and the Longhorns on June 9. And then the second of two official visits is set for him on June 23 with the Longhorns Big 12 foe Iowa State Cyclones.

Texas is one of 17 schools currently on Black’s offer sheet. It is also worth watching a few other Big 12 schools in the race to land his commitment, including Baylor, Iowa State, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Moreover, Black ranks as the nation’s No. 59 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 combo guard, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 85 high school prospect, No. 15 combo guard, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas.
