The first commitment in the 2023 recruiting class for head coach Jimbo Fisher and the rival Texas A&M Aggies is the talented four-star Wylie East 6-foot-5 and 245-pound strong-side defensive end Anthony James. It was around the same time that Texas got their first commit in the 2023 class that Texas A&M landed the in-state product James.

The initial commitment in the 2023 class for Sark and the Longhorns was the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. And more commitments could be on the way for the Longhorns 2023 class once official visits get going again.

A top target for the Longhorns to try and flip for their 2023 class that they look to remain in play for is James. Texas and Texas A&M are two of the 14 schools that are currently on the offer sheet of James. Some of the other notable schools that offered him as of the afternoon of May 26 are the Baylor Bears, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Texas is set to host James on an unofficial visit next month, on the weekend of June 11-13. That is when Texas is likely set to host any of their 2023 targets on the recruiting trail next month.

Moreover, the Top247 ranks James as the nation’s No. 49 2023 high school prospect, No. 5 strong-side defensive end, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas. It was former Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles after James, but it is now new DL coach Bo Davis.
