Good news could be coming the way of new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in the very near future with official visit season looming just around the corner. Texas is set to have a few dozen visitors next month, with a large emphasis placed on the number of commitments they could land once that part of the offseason gets underway.

Sark and the Longhorns look to be trending to land a commitment from a number of key targets in their 2022 class. But one to note is the speedy and elusive four-star Spearman 5-foot-10 and 165 pound wide receiver Brenen Thompson. This touted in-state product was recently in Austin for a state high school track meet held near the Forty Acres.

And Thompson got to visit campus a bit to see some of the facilities when he was in Austin earlier this month.

Texas now looks to be headed firmly in the right direction with Thompson moving into official visit season next month. Two recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have the commitment of Thompson falling to the Longhorns over the rest of the competition.

According to a 247Sports report, Thompson currently has an official visit scheduled with the Oklahoma State Cowboys for June 9. And he is anticipated to take unofficial visits with Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies next month. He is also reportedly expected to take official visits during the fall for game weekends with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers.

Texas needs to make the most of their opportunity to even get an unofficial visit on the books with Thompson. While they are headed in the right direction in pursuit of Thompson, there are still some competing schools that also look to be in the mix.

Watch out for the biggest challenges to be the aforementioned Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Clemson.

Those five schools are part of three-dozen in total on Thompson’s lengthy offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

Texas has second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman after Thompson as his primary recruiter. And Coleman did good work with his position group on the recruiting trail in the past few months.

Moreover, Thompson ranks as the nation’s No. 86 2022 high school prospect, No. 11 wide receiver, and No. 17 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 163 high school prospect, No. 23 wide receiver, and No. 27 prospect out of Texas.
