While it would be nothing short of tremendous for the Longhorns to rally this recruiting cycle and somehow land a commitment from Bates to start off the 2022 class, there’s a more realistic five-star prospect to get in the mix this offseason. Where a lot of Longhorns fans should keep their focus on for the 2022 class is with the highly-touted five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy shooting guard Keyonte George.

There is no more talented prospect out of this state for the 2022 recruiting cycle than the 6-foot-4 and 185-pound DFW product George. Texas was in on the recruitment of George for a good while now. And Texas is one of multiple schools to watch among the potential frontrunners to land George if he takes to the traditional college route instead of going pro right out of high school.

One of the two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions does have George’s commitment landing with Texas over the rest of the field.

Some of the other schools to watch at the moment in his recruitment include the Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. At least Texas Tech was in the mix until Beard left for the Forty Acres. Considering both Texas and Texas Tech were after George prior to Beard taking over for Smart as the Longhorns head coach, landing on the Forty Acres is a real possibility for this five-star recruit.

Texas looks to be in a good spot at the moment in the recruitment of George. He is the most likely to be a building block for the 2022 class for the Longhorns as a five-star commit throughout the rest of the offseason. But there is no decision date in sight for George right now. That is something to watch moving forward.
