Texas is doing well right now with a lot of the out-of-state targets for the 2022 class. Jones was one of the fast-rising targets from out-of-state that had some traction with the Texas coaching staff, and another one that very much feels that way is the potent 6-foot-3 and 210-pound Evanston Township (IL) four-star linebacker Sebastian Cheeks.

This product hailing out of the town that is the home of Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) is going to be a hotly contested target on the recruiting trail for schools like the Wisconsin Badgers, North Carolina Tar Heels, and the Longhorns. The good news for Texas is that the program that Cheeks was previously trending to doesn’t look to be prioritizing him much any longer.

Head coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were once the big school to talk about among the frontrunners to land Cheeks. But now, Texas might be at the top of the list, if one exists in pursuit of Cheeks.

By most accounts, the official visit that Texas had hosting Cheeks last weekend went really well. Cheeks has both co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate after him on the recruiting trail, and that appears to have Texas making some headway with him.

The school in particular to watch that is competing with Texas to land Cheeks could be UNC. Cheeks had an official visit with the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, NC, on June 4. Former Texas head coach (now in the same position with the Tar Heels) Mack Brown and UNC co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen are making a huge push for Cheeks at the moment.
