After missing out on the three-star Newton (TX) running back DeAnthony Gatson to head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class was forced to look elsewhere. Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian were looking to add a commitment from the in-state product Gatson following a key visit to Austin this month to make him the second running back in the 2022 class.

But it was ultimately USC that landed the commitment of Gatson over Texas and the rest of the field.

The sole running back commit in the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment is the talented four-star Klein Cain product Jaydon Blue. But it looks like Sark and running backs coach Stan Drayton are looking to add more depth at the position in this class.

With not much clarity existing as to where the Longhorns could look next for a running back target to add to the 2022 class, it is big for them to get four-star Tyler Legacy rusher, Jamarion Miller, for a visit this weekend.

According to a report confirmed by Justin Wells of Inside Texas this week, Miller is set to officially visit Texas this weekend. The specific official visit date on the books with Miller is June 25. He will be one of the more crucial visitors to impress in the final weekend of official and unofficial visits in the month of June.

It looked for a while like the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, and Texas A&M Aggies were starting to pull ahead of the Longhorns in the race to land a commitment from Miller. But Texas looks to still be sticking around in this race, and they really need to hit big on his visit to Austin this weekend.

Texas has Drayton and new special teams coordinator Jeff Banks as the top recruiters pursuing Miller. This could be big for Drayton and Banks to get to host Miller when there’s a lower quantity of visitors on campus this weekend.

At this point, Miller is almost as highly rated of a running back as the current Texas commit Blue. He ranks as the nation’s No. 172 2022 high school prospect, No. 14 running back, and No. 31 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 119 high school prospect, No. 7 running back, and No. 23 prospect out of Texas.
