Malachi Wideman, WR

A potential hidden gem that Sark and the Longhorns could find out of the transfer portal this offseason to replace some of the depth they lost with Smith putting his name in the portal is another former Vol. The ex-blue-chip recruit and Florida native wide receiver Malachi Wideman is a name to watch for Longhorns fans if Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman decide to pursue him out of the portal.

There’s not a whole lot of depth available at the wide receiver position in the portal at this point of the offseason. Texas does have a lot of unproven wide receiver depth at the moment between the likes of Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy, Troy Omeire, etc. It might not sound too great to this coaching staff to add another rather unproven talent at wideout.

But Wideman surely would bring a certain level of potency to the Longhorns receiving corps that they might not get this year otherwise. He would certainly bring more size to the table among the outside receivers. Wideman stands at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds and could be a real developing threat on the outside in the passing game.

Texas was not one of the more than 15 schools that sent Wideman an offer coming out of Venice High School in Florida. But the nation’s No. 117 2020 high school prospect, No. 22 wide receiver, and No. 19 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite) would be a promising skill position addition for Texas. We haven’t truly seen what Wideman can do yet, but he should emerge in the next year or two.
