As the final big weekend of official and unofficial visits wraps up for the Texas football program in the critical month of June on the recruiting trail, new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will anxiously await to see if any results are looming in the near future. Texas experienced a good bit of volatility on the recruiting trail in the past couple of months.

That is largely thanks to the decommitment from the prior lone prospect in the Longhorns 2023 class, and the five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. Although it wasn’t nearly as detrimental and these are much different times for the program on the recruiting trail, the feeling of losing a lone five-star skill position commit in an upcoming recruiting class does bring back sour feelings for this fan base.

Nonetheless, Texas looks to be trending up on the recruiting trail under Sark’s direction in the midst of the summer months. One important prospect for Sark and the Longhorns to continue to make progress with this offseason is another former five-star commit at a skill position.

Five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart was on the Forty Acres last weekend for his first official visit since his decommitment from the Longhorns 2022 class back in March. His official visit with Texas came specifically back on June 18.

So how are things shaping up on the recruiting trail in pursuit of getting a commitment back from Stewart following his visit last weekend?

According to a report from Horns247 over the weekend (paid content), the former Texas commit and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native Stewart spoke highly of the coaching staff and program as a whole following his official visit last weekend. He mentioned that he feels like the program is headed in a “good direction” and that he does “want to see what they’re going to do this year and hopefully it’s impressive”.

Texas has second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and new special teams coordinator Jeff Banks as Stewart’s top recruiters. They are duking it out with the likes of the Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies, among others, to get the commitment of Stewart back.

What’s important to note here is that even with a good official visit seemingly in the books with Stewart, his eyes are on the future with this program. Stewart, among a number of other big-time targets of the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 classes, are likely waiting to see the results on the gridiron starting this fall for Sark and this team.
