What could be an enormous week for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and new head coach Steve Sarkisian started out on the evening of June 28 by landing a commitment from the versatile and talented four-star Tyler Legacy (TX) running back Jamarion Miller. Texas has a few other big-time targets of their 2022 class announcing their decisions within the next week or so.

Rounding out this month of constant key unofficial and official visitors last weekend could see some immediate results for the Longhorns 2022 class. And that is very good news given some of the volatility that the Longhorns were starting to experience again in terms of roster attrition and on the recruiting trail.

Texas lost a commitment from the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens earlier in the month. He was their lone commit in the Longhorns 2023 class before re-opening his recruitment. Texas also saw one of their most productive returning wide receivers in 2021, junior and former four-star recruit Jake Smith, enter the NCAA Transfer Portal last week.

However, landing that commitment from Miller feels like a turning point for Sark and the Longhorns heading into the month of July. If Texas finds a good amount of success on the field this fall in Sark’s first year, then the results on the recruiting trail could explode in the next four-to-six months.

There does look to be one potential commitment on the way that started trending the Longhorns way this week. The touted four-star Texas High 6-foot-3 and 210-pound edge rusher Derrick Brown has some leading indicators that he holds the Longhorns in high favor when he’s set to announce his decision.

The two most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions project Brown’s commitment to land with Texas over the Oklahoma Sooners and the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking the commitment of Brown to land with Texas.

Any of the other projections for Brown’s commitment, for the time being, has him landing with Oklahoma. But it feels like the momentum is firmly in Texas’ favor in the recruitment of Brown at this point in time.

Texas hosted Brown for an official visit back on June 4, as one of the multiple visits that he took this month. Some of the other schools he visited included the Baylor Bears (June 25) and Texas Tech Red Raiders (June 18). He also had an unofficial visit of note with the rival Texas A&M Aggies back on April 24.

Although Brown announced a top two of Baylor and Texas on June 28, he does still appear to have a visit on the books with Oklahoma for Sep. 17. That might not wind up happening at this point, though, considering Oklahoma didn’t make his latest round of finalist cuts.

Texas and Baylor look to be duking it out to land the commitment of Brown from here on out. Depending on the timeline of his commitment, this could soon be an addition to the Longhorns 2022 class if he chooses to take his talents to Austin instead of Waco this year (or at least before National Signing Day 2022).

After landing the commitment from Miller back on June 28, Texas is now up to a dozen commits in their 2022 class. Getting Brown in the mix could put them one step closer to a double-digit number of blue chips in this group.
