Texas Football: 3 commits Horns are likely to miss out on this week
Jordan Hudson, WR
This was not the best stretch of time on the recruiting trail for head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners in trying to retain commitments at the wide receiver position. On June 30, Oklahoma saw the highly-touted four-star Edmond-Santa Fe wide receiver Talyn Shettron flip to the in-state rival Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Shettron left the Sooners 2022 class to join his brother, and Santa Fe tight end Tabry Shettron, with head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State.
But losing the commitment from Shettron was just one of the decommitments that Riley and the Sooners experienced of late. The other major loss of a blue-chip wide receiver commit in the 2022 class for Oklahoma is the four-star Garland product Jordan Hudson.
The 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Hudson looks likely to land with head coach Sonny Dykes, wide receivers coach Ra’Shaad Samples, and the SMU Mustangs over Texas. While Texas looks to be second in line behind SMU, that doesn’t mean much in terms of where Hudson lands when it’s all said and done.
Hudson is set to announce his decision on July 4, among a number of other prospects that will be doing so during the holiday weekend. The two schools that will be the biggest challengers to get the commitment of Hudson next to SMU will be the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas. But we’re likely to see Texas fall short of getting former Oklahoma commit Hudson this coming weekend.
