One of the true top prospects that the Longhorns could get a hold of in their 2022 class is the elite five-star Windward School 6-foot-9 and 235-pound power forward Kijani Wright. As an NBA-caliber prospect that could very likely be a lottery draft pick as soon as in 2023, Wright is a name to be sought after for the Longhorns.

Beard and the Longhorns weren’t really anticipated to be one of the major contenders to land a commitment from Wright out of the gates. But that has all changed since visit season past last month. Texas firmly established itself among the frontrunners to get Wright in their 2022 class by having a knock it out of the park sort of visit with him back on June 11.

A few of the other schools that hosted Wright for a visit were the USC Trojans and Arkansas Razorbacks. USC and Arkansas do look to be some of the other major players in the recruitment of Wright, along with the Kansas Jayhawks, Florida State Seminoles, Michigan State Spartans, and Stanford Cardinal.

Stanford is set to host Wright for an official visit in early August. So that is something certainly to watch for Texas as some of the west coast schools try and lock on to the interests of Wright.

The Los Angeles, CA, native would be a fantastic pick up for Beard and the Longhorns if they could get him as one of the initial commits in the 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 power forward, and No. 3 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 10 high school prospect, top overall power forward, and No. 3 prospect out of California.
