Harold Perkins, LB

About the most highly-coveted linebacker prospect for the 2022 recruiting cycle is the elite five-star Cy Park (TX) product, Harold Perkins. This 6-foot-3 and 200-pound linebacker is looking like someone that could boil his decision down to the Longhorns, rival Texas A&M Aggies, and the 2019 National Champion LSU Tigers.

There were a few additional schools that Perkins visited last month, including the likes of the Florida Gators and Oregon Ducks. But the top three schools in the running to land a commitment from Perkins at the moment look to be Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU.

That said, Perkins did specifically mention on his Twitter timeline back on the morning of July 3 that he appreciates how Florida head coach Dan Mullen texts him every morning about what his future could be like at that school.

It looks like Perkins puts a lot of stock into the level of which various head coaches place a priority on his recruitment. That is an important note for Sark and the Longhorns staff moving forward.

But it is the Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher that look to be winning over the interests of Perkins right now. Both of the expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have Perkins’ commitment landing with Texas A&M over the rest of the competition. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Perkins to land with the Aggies.

The good news for Texas is that there looks to be plenty of time before Perkins will announce his decision. A strong showing from the Longhorns this fall and more priority from the coaching staff through the end of the calendar year could place Texas as the lead school in the recruitment of Perkins.
