C.J. Williams, WR

Texas has made a big play for the talented four-star 6-foot-2 and 195-pound Mater Dei wide receiver C.J. Williams for this recruiting cycle. Williams is one of the higher-rated wide receivers in this cycle, but he is not swinging his interests in the directions of the Longhorns at the moment. Despite what seemed to be a successful official visit to Austin last month, Williams is still trending to land with head coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

All four of the expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have Williams’ commitment landing with the Fighting Irish over the likes of Texas and the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking the commitment of Williams to land with Notre Dame.

Williams did recently include Texas in his top five finalist schools. On his Twitter timeline on July 7, Williams announced his latest round of finalist cuts. The other three schools among his finalists outside of Texas and Notre Dame are the Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, and Stanford Cardinal.

Two of the bigger official visits that Williams had last month came with Texas and Notre Dame. It does look as if Texas could be in second place to get the decision of Williams right now behind Notre Dame. But the margin of which separates Texas and Notre Dame could be the real question at hand.

There’s no decision date in sight yet for Williams, but Texas has a lot of ground to make up. Notre Dame has all of the momentum for Williams in the middle of the summer months. This is one that Texas is not sitting in a favorable position with in early July.
