Texas Football: 3 likely starters ready to breakout in 2021
Troy Omeire, WR
The receiving corps experienced some rocky turnover this offseason thanks to some entrants to the NCAA Transfer Portal and the 2021 NFL Draft. Texas saw key losses occur at wide receiver thanks to junior Brennan Eagles and senior Tarik Black entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Both had the chance to return this fall but elected to take their talents to the next level instead.
Two of the key losses for Texas to the transfer portal included junior wideout Jake Smith and redshirt sophomore, Malcolm Epps. Both Smith and Epps wound up landing with the USC Trojans out of the transfer portal this offseason.
This will give the prime opportunity for some new faces in this receiving corps to step up in the spotlight in 2021. Two key wideouts to watch now among the freshmen for the Longhorns are Troy Omeire and Xavier Worthy. Texas could have some stars in the making in Omeire and Worthy, but we need to see the production on the field from those two before officially making that declaration.
Omeire is the more likely of these two wideouts to get starting reps out of the gates this season. He looked like a freshman breakout candidate last fall but suffered a season-ending knee injury before it could really get started. This will be the first real chance for Omeire to become one of the top targets for Texas in the passing game.
