Very few targets of the Longhorns 2022 class will be more important to impress from here on out for Sark and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood than the elite five-star Bowie offensive guard Devon Campbell. Texas needs to get a good foundation built in the trenches, and that could all start with the 2022 class.

Considering that Texas has a real shot to get a commitment from a five-star offensive lineman in a recruiting class for the first time since the 2013 cycle, getting it right with Campbell is paramount. It is not a great look that the Longhorns missed on a top in-state offensive line target like Banks, especially considering he took his talents to Oregon.

Campbell recently announced his top five finalist schools. And Texas was included amid a group that also encompassed the Oklahoma Sooners, USC Trojans, Alabama Crimson Tide, and LSU Tigers. Texas recently hosted Campbell for a visit last month, but they should be able to lock in one more official for the fall.

It looks like the battle to land Campbell’s commitment could come down to Texas and Oklahoma. But Texas looks to hold the edge over the rival Sooners at the moment. That edge will not be easy to keep moving forward, as Flood is set to have his hands full fending off the likes of OU offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and head coach Lincoln Riley.
