Texas Basketball: Full projected rotation with return of Courtney Ramey
Sixth Man
Christian Bishop, G
The sixth man role for Beard and the Longhorns this season could fall between the former Ute and junior transfer Allen and fellow junior forward transfer/former Creighton Blue Jay Christian Bishop.
In a role that is likely to be a revolving door for the Longhorns next season given all of the change in this rotation, it’s really only a guessing game to figure out who will occupy this spot at the outset. It’s just hard to believe that someone that was as efficient as Bishop last season in a big role with a top 20 team in Creighton would fall any lower in the rotation.
Do not color me surprised if the Longhorns do wind up placing Bishop in the starting five at the outset of the regular season. In 31 games played last season with Creighton, Bishop averaged 11.0 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks. And he shot 68.1 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 56.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Bishop brings that brand of defense with tenacity to the table for Beard and the Longhorns that we are also likely to see out of Allen. Last season, Bishop ranked in the top three in the Big East in defensive rebounding percentage, defensive box plus/minus, defensive rating, and defensive win shares.
But Bishop doesn’t only excel on the defensive end of the floor. He still ranked in the top 20 in the Big East in offensive box plus/minus, offensive rebounding percentage, and he led in true shooting percentage and field goal percentage.
